SAFFORD — Due to COVID and the passing of organizer Manuel “Moe” Villalba Sr. in 2020, the Sons of the American Legion July 4 Fishing Derby was put on hiatus.
However, the free event for children is back this year with a new name — the Moe Villalba Fishing Derby for Kids.
The event will take place Monday, July 4, from 6-11 a.m., at the ponds at Graham County Fairgrounds. There will be prizes for all age categories, as well as free hot dogs, watermelon and snow cones.
