Joseph Arthur Fout, 83, of Clifton, Arizona passed away January 10, 2024, peacefully in his sleep. He was born to the late Arthur and Mary Fout on March 23, 1940, in Kenton, Ohio.
Joseph graduated from Kenton High School in 1958. He also attended college at the University of Notre Dame and Bowling Green State University. Joseph served as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962, where he was stationed in Germany.
He married Linda Diane Fout (née Nelson) in 1974. They lived together in Ohio for several years before relocating to Arizona, first to Casa Grande and then to Morenci. Joseph was preceded in death by Linda, as well as his brother Jim Fout. He is survived by his son, Joseph Benson Fout and his brother Michael Fout and his sister Ginger Fout.
Joseph worked for many years in analytical services for Phelps Dodge, first at the lab in Morenci, and then later at the centralized lab operation in Safford, before retiring from the company. He also had a hand in helping his wife Linda operate Copper Willy’s Pizza Express.
Joseph was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved walleye fishing on Lake Erie when he lived in Ohio. He loved backpacking and fishing for bass on the Black River and Eagle Creek. He loved hiking, camping, shooting, anything that would get him outdoors and into the wilderness. His other pastimes included golf, reading, woodworking, and archery. He also enjoyed volunteering for the Greenlee County Historical Society, working as a docent for those that came to visit the museum on Chase Creek Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph will be celebrated Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 329 Chase Creek Street in Clifton, AZ. This will be followed by a private interment ceremony at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Columbarium.
