THATCHER — Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation announced a slight change in schedule for this weekend’s event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
In order to reduce conflict with SalsaFest in Safford, a single dinner/entertainment event will take place at Eastern Arizona College, Saturday, Sept. 25, starting at 6 p.m.
Mariachi Aguilas De Las Cruces, of Las Cruces, N.M., and a folklorico troupe from Tucson will perform in EAC’s Activity Center. There will also be speakers, raffles and a presentation of the Hispanic Family of the Year, the Joe and Nadine Carrasco family.
The event is a partnership between Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation and Eastern Arizona College.
“We really try to reflect our community, and having an opportunity to bring in this caliber of entertainment and have our students hear these stories . . . we jumped right in,” said Keith Alexander, special assistant to the president of EAC.
The proceeds from the event will be used for scholarships for local high graduates and adults to attend EAC.
“Anything that helps a student get through college with financial assistance; I’m all over that,” said Gary Sorenson, dean of students.
Entrees include red chile pork with tortillas or pollo caliente.
“We want to grow (Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation) and this partnership is perfect for us to grow,” said Lupe Munoz, secretary/treasurer for Eastern Arizona Hispanic Heritage Corporation.
Cost for the dinner event is $55 per person and tickets can be purchased by calling 928-965-9775 or 928-215-2118.
