High temps, low humidity hampering firefighter efforts

GLOBE — Firefighters battling the Telegraph fire are reporting that low humidity is allow fire to burn check lines, continuing to put the communities of Superior, Miami and Globe at risk.

The fire is at 84,860 acres and is 34 percent contained.

U.S. Highway 60, between Superior and Globe, remains closed to all traffic, as well as State Route 77 between Superior and Winkelman.

The Mescal fire on the San Carlos Apache Reservation is at 72,250 acres and is 36 percent contained.

Crews holding fire lines have enabled more residents to return their homes, and containment lines seem to be working.

Growth of the Hobo fire in Greenlee County, northeast of Morenci, has been slow, growing to 400 acres as of Thursday afternoon. The fire remains at 0-percent containment.
