Local coaches, players and fans watched Saturday morning on the AzPreps365 bracket release show to find out where they would end of up in this year’s state tournaments.
3A Volleyball
Thatcher drew the #18 seed and will travel to #15 Parker on Tuesday for a 6pm match in the 3A Play-in tournament. The top 8 seeds get a bye, and the tournament will be reseeded after the play in tournament.
Safford finished the regular season with 16-1 schedule in power point games and were 5th in the last rankings and have secured a bye directly into the state tournament and will find out on November 1st at 11am who and where they will play.
2A Volleyball
Morenci secured the #23 spot in the Play-in tournament and will travel to #10 Northland Prep in Flagstaff for a 6pm game on Tuesday.
1A Volleyball
Duncan is the #12 seed and will travel to #5 Williams for a 6pm match on Tuesday.
2A Football
Pima secured the overall #1 seed with their 49-20 win over #4 Santa Cruz on Friday night. They will host #16 Holbrook on Friday at 7pm. Holbrook finished the regular season ranked outside the top 16 but won their region and the automatic playoff bid. The winner of this game will play the winner of #8 Phoenix Christian/#9 Tonopah Valley.
Willcox won the 2A San Pedro and the automatic bid. They are the #14 seed and will travel to Scottsdale to take on the Scottsdale Christian Eagles at 7pm on Friday. The winner of this game will play the winner of #6 Santa Cruz/#11 Tombstone.
3A Football
With their 21-14 win over Thatcher, the Morenci Wildcats jumped to the #6 seed and will host #11 Benjamin Franklin on Friday at 7pm. The winner of this game will play the winner of #3 Paradise Honors/#14 Gilbert Christian.
Thatcher is the #7 seed and will host #10 Florence at Eastern Arizona College on Friday night at 7pm. The winner of this game will play the winner of #15 ALA-Ironwood/#2 Valley Christian.
Safford is the #16 seed and will travel across the state to Bullhead City to take on #1 Mohave. The winner of this game will play the winner of #8 Pusch Ridge/#9 Blue Ridge.
All five 3A South teams qualified for the playoffs.
