Graham well ahead of Greenlee, Cochise in flu cases

PHOENIX — There were nearly 50 cases of flu in Graham County in the most recent week of reporting.

That’s according to the Arizona Department of Health Services, which reports the county saw 47 cases of flu through Nov. 23, down 44.7 percent from the previous week’s 85 cases.

Graham County has had 156 total cases so far this flu season, which is 742 percent above the five-year average of 21 normally at this time of year.

Greenlee County reported 14 cases of flu the week of Nov. 23, up 75 percent from the previous week’s 8 cases. So far, Greenlee County has had 24 cases of flu.

Cochise County has had it the easiest so far this flu season, with just 2 cases the week of Nov. 23 and 12 total since the start of the flu season.

Statewide, Arizona has experienced 1,438 cases so far this flu season, which is down 22.8 percent compared to the five-year average.

To have the best chance at avoiding the flu this season, the Department of Health Services recommends a flu shot, plus regular washing of hands for least 20 seconds, covering coughs with a tissue or sleeve, avoid close contact with those who are sick, and staying home when sick.
