Graham, Greenlee Dems hosting Leap-a-Looza, Souper Tuesday events

SAFFORD — The Democratic Parties of Graham and Greenlee counties are joining together for a once-every-four-year event.

The parties are hosting a Leap-a-Looza Community BBQ event Thursday, Feb. 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Vignette on Main in Safford.

The event will feature candidates for office, an opportunity to pick up candidate signs, sign petitions, and more.

“Door prizes and raffles,” said Graham County Democratic Party Chair Patty Cervantez. “We will also have the opportunity to check your voter registration, to make sure your address is correct, or if you’ve had any changes (such as) if you’ve moved. As well as for those who are not registered and would like to register.”

Candidates currently confirmed to appear at Leap-a-Looza include Bob Karp, who is seeking to unseat incumbent Republican David Gowan for the state Senate seat in Dist. 19, which represents Graham, Greenlee and Cochise counties; and Nick Nordgran-Tellez, who is seeking one of the state House seats in Dist. 19 currently held by Republicans Gail Griffin and Lupe Diaz.

The party is also holding a fund-raiser Tuesday, March 5, to coincide with Super Tuesday, when 15 states will conduct Presidential Preference elections.

“It’s called our Souper Tuesday,” Cervantez said. “We are inviting individuals to bring their soup and share it with others. Pay $10 at the door, get to taste all the soups, and we’ll provide the cheese, the bread, sodas and water.”

Souper Tuesday will take place at Graham County Democratic Party Headquarters, on 5th Avenue in Safford, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
