During Monday’s meeting, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved moving $50,000 from contingency to cover unanticipated costs with a new digital sign.
“The footings are 14-foot deep, 3-foot wide in diameter. So they’re pretty massive to hold that 26-foot tall sign, that’s about 15-foot wide, too. So it’s a substantial foundation,” said County Manager Dustin Welker.
The county had originally budgeted $150,000 for the sign, but the lowest qualifying bid came in at $172,469 from the local company, Ponderosa Metal Works. There are also additional costs associated with getting power to the new sign.
Welker said the goal is to have the new sign in place and operational before the start of the Graham County Fair, Oct. 10-13.
The board also learned who will be grand marshal of this year’s Graham County Fair Parade.
“Jo Jo Schroder,” said Parks Director Trey Andrews. “They’ve been our locally-owned business, one of our only locally-owned grocers, for over 40 years. She’s given back to our community quite a bit, and we believe that she is a great grand marshal.”
The parade will take place Friday, Oct. 11.
