Graham Chamber debuts salsa contests

SAFFORD — The Graham County Chamber of Commerce wants to keep the spirit of SalsaFest alive even if the physical event has been cancelled for 2020.

The first way is through the Salsa Trail Challenge.

To complete the challenge, one must submit an entry for each of the SalsaTrail locations, which includes: name, the restaurant, the entrée you ate, the salsa(s) you tried, a score of the salsa between 1-100 and a photo of your receipt.

Each person who completes the SalsaFest Challenge will receive a one of a kind T-shirt and the first person to complete the SalsaFest Challenge will receive a $20 gift card from each restaurant for a $300 total value.

The restaurants can also win in three categories: the Eastern Arizona Courier Best Overall Salsa, Double R Communications Best Red Salsa and Eat Local Gila Valley Best Green Salsa.

There’s also a second contest that could net salsa lovers prizes.

“We’re having a photo contest. So as you visit these 15 locations, we’d love for you to take a picture of your food, take a picture of you and your group enjoying your food. If it’s carry-out, take a picture of that; if it’s dining in, take a picture of that,” said Vance Bryce, executive director of the Graham County Chamber of Commerce during a recent appearance on Voice of the Valley.

“There will be one winner for each restaurant, and they will get a $20 gift card from that restaurant where they took the photo.”

Participants should text entries for both the SalsaFest Challenge and the Photo Contest to 928-792-8661, or e-mail salsatrail@graham-chamber.com. Both contests start Sept. 1 and run through Sept. 30.
