Girl Scouts are making big changes to keep their Cookie Season, which begins January 16, safe for everyone.
Girl Scout Cookies are being distributed to Girl Scout troops across Graham & Greenlee County today at the annual Cookie Drop. With safety measures in place, the Cookie Drop will allow troops to fill their cars, vans, trucks, and trailers with cookies. Girls start selling cookies on January 16. As the world shifts with the pandemic, Girl Scouts are adapting their sales methods to sell in creative, socially distant, and safe ways. This year’s Cookie Season will look differently from past years’ as Girl Scouts in Southern Arizona pivot to drive-thru cookie booths, a focus on online sales, and a collaboration with Grubhub for contact-free delivery. Drive-thru booths will include safety cones, COVID cleanliness kits, and more to provide protection to our Girl Scout entrepreneurs. Girl Scouts is grateful to Grubhub for waiving all fees for the organization to make this new delivery option feasible for sales without reducing troops’ and councils’ proceeds.
GSSoAZ has continued to stay strong throughout the pandemic because our community’s girls need Girl Scouting. With the challenges of the past year, more families are struggling and may otherwise be limited in their access to Girl Scouts. Girl Scouting offers a place for girls to belong, to grow in confidence, to see the world, and make lifelong friends. It is our goal to make sure EVERY girl has access to those opportunities. Cookie sales make that possible.
Selling cookies teaches girls five important entrepreneurial skills—goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—which sets them up for success both now and later in life. Proceeds from each and every purchase stay local with the troop and its council to power Girl Scouts’ essential leadership programming. This Cookie Season will allow GSSoAZ to continue offering the life-changing opportunities that come from cookies sales while maintaining safe and healthy participation for all.
