Gila Valley averaging 28 new COVID-19 cases a day in January

SAFFORD — While the Gila Valley saw another 143 residents test positive with COVID-19 over the past four days, there were no additional deaths.

That’s according to data released by the Graham County Health Department on Thursday and Friday.

The total number of new cases in January thus far is at 196, 47.5 percent fewer than the same time last year.

The total number of Graham County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic is at 9,132, or 23.5 percent of the county’s population.

The Graham County death toll due to coronavirus stands at 159, for a 1.74 mortality rate.

Arizona Department of Health Services reports that 56 percent of Graham County residents have been vaccinated for COVID-19. That’s up three-tenths of a point from Jan. 4.
