George William Lemen, 73, of Pima, passed away on September 3, 2016. He was born on January 15, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Doris and Guy Lemen.
George grew up in Pine Bluff. He went on to attend the Marion Military Institute, Mississippi State and University of Wyoming. In 1964, he married Alice Hames. They lived in Laramie, Wyoming, and Denver, Colorado, and together, had three beautiful children, Robert, Kristin and Elizabeth. He later moved to Casper, Wyoming, where he met and married Carla Akin in October of 1985. Carla had one son, James. The two families became one.
In 1992, George and Carla moved to Pima where George became very active in the community. While employed in industrial sales, George became a familiar face and friend to many working at the mines. He served as Mayor of Pima, served on the Pima town council, acted as president of the Mt. Graham Safe House, was a member of People for the West and was a Republican Precinct Committeeman. He was also a member of the Gila Watershed Partnership and the Society of Mining Engineering.
George had the best laugh on the face of the earth. He was an avid outdoorsman. He climbed the Grand Tetons, loved to fish and worked as a ski patrolman. George was also a huge fan of Nascar and the Denver Broncos.
George is survived by his loving wife, Carla, mother, Doris, children, Robert (Karen) Lemen, Kristin Harper, Elizabeth Lemen and James (Bridget) Akin, as well as his four grandchildren, Cameron and Ian Lemen, Joseph Akin and Cameron Harper.
He was preceded in death by his father, Guy Lemen.
Services for George will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Thatcher beginning at 2 p.m.
