SAFFORD — At its most recent meeting, the Graham County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the request of Sheriff P.J. Allred to accept a $26,933.87 grant from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission.
“It’s for us to pay our overtime; not just for our agency but for other agencies in the Valley whenever we have one of our bigger drug cases happening or if we have violent crime — homicide, things like that — that would pull a lot of funds from each of our agencies. We’re able to get this grant to help assist us with our overtime,” Allred said.
Under the terms of the grant, $6,933.87 would be available to cover costs for the Sheriff’s Office, while the remaining $20,000 would be used to reimburse other agencies — such as Safford, Thatcher and Pima Police departments; and Arizona Department of Public Safety — when those agencies assist on an incident over which GCSO has jurisdiction.
To qualify for the grant, the Sheriff’s Office had to complete annual Civil Rights training, as well as complete an EEOC plan.
