SAFFORD — The Safford City-Graham County Library wants to help everyone properly see the eclipse this week.

The eclipse will take place Saturday, Oct. 14.

“We will be out at our new Library Annex, on South Central Avenue, from 9-10 a.m., with eclipse glasses,” said Library Supervisor Leslie Talley.

Partial eclipse of the sun will start at about 8:08 a.m., with the start of the annularity at about 10:29 a.m. The annularity will end at about 10:35 a.m., and the partial will end at about 11:08 a.m.

Library staff and participants will also be able to document observations via the Globe Observer app, which shares data with NASA.

Southeastern Arizona will see about 80 percent of the eclipse, with the Four Corners area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah being the closest best location to see the full effect.

Looking directly at the sun can damage the eyes via by burning the retina, or even causing blindness. Eclipse glasses are the best way to see the event, or use welder’s glasses rated 14 or higher. Sunglasses, smoked glass or colored film will not protect the eyes.

Library staff will distribute free eclipse glasses while supplies last.
