SUPERIOR — Work will continue on U.S. Highway 60 this week, impacting travel between the Gila Valley and the Phoenix metro area.
Arizona Department of Transportation announced Highway 60 will be closed in both directions between mileposts 227-243 Tuesday, Sept. 30, to Thursday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
During the closure, eastbound Highway 60 drivers will be detoured to southbound State Route 177 through Winkelman to northbound SR 77. Westbound Highway 60 drivers will be detoured to southbound SR 77 to northbound SR 177.
Due to the roughly 75-mile length of the detour, drivers may want to consider planning travel before 9 a.m. and after 2 p.m. The detour is estimated to add an additional hour for trips between Superior and Miami.
In addition, Highway 60 will be reduced to one lane, with alternating east- and westbound travel, between mileposts 240-243 Monday, Sept. 29, to Thursday, Oct. 2, from 6-9 a.m. and from 2-6 p.m. each day; and Friday, Oct. 3, from 6 a.m. to noon.
Flaggers and a pilot care will direct drivers through the work zone, which will be reduced to 25 miles per hour.
Also, the roadway will be reduced to one lane in each direction between mileposts 243-247 Monday, Sept. 29, to Thursday, Oct. 2, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, for cleanup from flooding damage.
Drivers should allow extra travel time and use caution through the work zones.
