GRAHAM COUNTY — Graham County Sheriff’s deputies rescued a man who found himself stranded with car problems and without water for two days.
Deputies found the man west of Hackberry Road. He said his GPS took him there instead of a convenience store, which he was looking for.
The man said he camped the previous few days at Akker Lake, just north of Clifton, but Greenlee County Sheriff’s deputies told Graham deputies there is no Akker Lake. They also said Pima County Sheriff’s Office reached out because the man’s sister filed a missing person’s report and that he might be suicidal.
The man said he has struggled with substances and occasionally feels depressed, but he was feeling better now.
The sister was contacted to let her know the man was safe, his car was being repaired and he was returning to the Tucson area.
