THATCHER —8th Street in Thatcher will be closed for the next four weeks as part of the road widening project.
8th Street is closed on both sides of the railroad tracks while work is completed on the crossing and roadway is prepared for paving. The closure remains in effect now through the week of May 12.
Town officials said residents who live on 8th Street will have access to their homes, but will not be able to cross the tracks and must use an alternate route.
The project is to widen 8th Street between 20th and 1st avenues to three lanes, with curbs and sidewalks on both sides of the street. The work is expected to cost in excess of $4.7 million, with the state of Arizona contributing $4.5 million.
