SAFFORD — How Arizonans dealt with the heat in the days before air conditioning is the topic of the next Friends Night Out at the Safford City-Graham County Library.

Christine Reid, of Arizona Speaks and AZ Humanities, will talk about conditions the state’s pioneers faced, even into the early part of the 20th Century.

Reid is a writer and researcher at the Pinal County Historical Society and Community Scholar for the ASU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She has served on many of the town of Florence’s heritage projects and agencies. Committed to sharing history in a lively manner, she presents the sometimes hidden or forgotten aspects of Arizona’s characters and history.

Friends Night Out is Thursday, April 21, at 5:30 p.m., in the library’s programming room. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
