FORT THOMAS, Ariz. — Fort Thomas found the end zone three times but couldn’t keep pace with Salome’s explosive offense in a 66-24 loss Friday night in Fort Thomas.
Quarterback Kobe Pearson gave the Fort Thomas crowd plenty to cheer about, throwing three touchdown passes to Michael Olivar. The two connected on a 1-yard score in the first quarter, an 11-yard touchdown late in the second, and a 72-yard strike in the third. Pearson also ran for a two-point conversion and added a conversion pass to Koby Hunter.
Running back Melvin Rustin IV sparked the Apaches early with a long first-quarter run that set up the team’s opening touchdown. Fort Thomas finished with 16 points in the first half and added another long scoring play after halftime.
Salome, however, used big plays and turnovers to take control. The Frogs returned an interception for a touchdown, scored on a 70-yard run, and broke loose for an 80-yard kickoff return. Salome led 42-16 at halftime and pulled away in the second half.
Despite the loss, Fort Thomas (1-2) showed resilience on offense, moving the ball through the air and finishing drives in front of its home fans.
The Apaches will look to regroup next week when they travel to Joseph City.
