SAFFORD — Donations are down at two of the area’s food banks, and the Gila Valley Ministerial Association is asking for the public’s help in changing that situation.

The Ministerial Association is conduction a food drive through Sept. 15. to benefit Our Neighbor’s Farm and Pantry and St. Vincent DePaul Society.

While all non-perishable food items are welcome, there are specific items that are very much needed, including ramen noodles, canned fruits, cereal and powdered milk.

“And, of course, we didn’t mention it but cash donations are always appreciated, because it takes cash to buy the perishable things. And the perishable things are probably the healthiest things for people to eat,” said Pastor David Hakes with the 7th Day Adventist Church and the Gila Valley Ministerial Association.

Donations of non-perishable items may be taken to either of the food banks or may be dropped off immediately after purchase in the collection boxes at Thriftee Food & Drug and Basha’s.
