The flu season is underway for 2018-2019 with 26 laboratory confirmed cases in Arizona this week. Six of the confirmed cases occurred in Graham County, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services. Children (ADHS), teenagers and adults, ages 50 to 64 seem to be the most affected in Graham County this season with 66% of cases among those age groups.
These cases represent a small proportion of the true number of cases of influenza. Many people do not visit the doctor when ill and doctors don’t run tests on all patients exhibiting influenza-like symptoms.
There have been 96 reported cases of the flu in Arizona since September 30, 2018. 78% of the cases are A/H1N1 and 22% are A/H3.
