Eastern Arizona erases double digit deficit to top Moberly Area

Lubbock, Tx. — Eastern Arizona trailed by as many 12 points in the first half against Moberly Area on Tuesday morning before finding their stride in the 4th quarter en route to a 70-63 win.

Eastern outscored MACC 18-16 in the third quarter to cut the Greyhounds lead to just one, 50-49. The Monsters settled in the 4th quarter with a 9-0 run to build their largest lead of the game with 3:13 to play. Eastern ended the game on a 17-9 run in the final 8:28 to secure the win.

Eastern was led by 6’5″ freshman Nadira Eltayeb who powered her way to 20 points and 16 rebounds. She added 5 of the Monsters 10 blocks to her stat line as well. Ajae Yoakum finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. All-American candidate Catarina Ferriera chipped in 15.

EAC scored 40 of their 70 points in the paint. They shot just 2-13 from behind the arc but out rebounded the Greyhounds 48-34. Defensively, EAC held MACC scoreless for nearly 5 minutes in the 4th quarter to help secure the win.

EAC moves to 17-2 on the season and will play #3 Chipola CC on Wednesday at 3pm Arizona time. The Indians are 18-4 and had a bye in the opening round.
