EAC’s “Visiting Writers Series” presents: Joyce Benvenuto

By Lizzie Clonts

THATCHER, Ariz.— Eastern Arizona College’s English Department is hosting author and poet Joyce Benvenuto at its next Visiting Writers Series engagement scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, which will include a writer’s workshop and evening reading.

Benvenuto is the author of A Grand River: Poems for Michigan and the recent collection, Poem Journey: More Poems & Prose from Along Old Grand River. The first of Benvenuto’s public events is a workshop, which will be held in the Academic Programs Building, Room #269, at 3 p.m.

“We always request a writer’s workshop from our visiting writers because the more casual environment affords a more intimate, relaxed setting for both new and seasoned writers to learn specific tools and techniques for mastering their craft,” said Ken Raines, EAC English instructor and Series coordinator, who concluded, “We’d like to see as many community members attend as possible. It’s a great opportunity to learn from a professional writer and may serve as just the motivation they need to enroll in a writing class here at EAC.”

The premiere event of the day will be a “performance” during which Benvenuto will read from her work and discuss the content. The free reading will be held at 7 p.m. on March 26, in the EAC Activities Center – Gila/Galiuro Room.

For more information about the workshop and reading, contact Raines in the EAC English Department at ken.raines@eac.edu, or 428-8218.
