SAFFORD — Fifteen months after announcing its first two four-year degree offerings, Eastern Arizona College is making moves to add another bachelor’s degree program.
During Wednesday’s Graham Economic Partnership Breakfast forum on health care as an economic driver, Heston Welker, vice president of Operations for EAC, announced that nursing will be the next four-year degree.
“These are the programs that are wanted, they’re needed, and our enrollments are so high. So it’s a win-win-win for everyone in the community,” Welker said.
After the forum, Welker said the process of establishing a four-year degree program takes a year or two, so students should be able to enroll in 2027 or 2028.

EAC’s Nursing program is currently the top-ranked ADN nursing program in Arizona by RegisteredNursing.org and NursingProcess.org.
Welker also talked about the college’s development of a new cosmetology building, which will include a medical clinic in partnership with Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center. The clinic will give students in all medical programs the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a real-world setting.
And brand new medical programs, such as Rad Tech and Surg Tech, having a waiting list for students to enroll.
