By Sarah Savannah Griffin

THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College will be offering one-credit Hatha and Hot Yoga classes starting Jan. 10, 2018. All students must be at least 14 years old.

The beginning Hatha classes are offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30-10:20 a.m. (HPE101AY, Section #5778), and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:20 p.m (HPE101AY, Section #5759). Both beginning classes will be at the Fizek building in Thatcher. An Advanced Yoga class will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-6:50 p.m. at Creative Flow Studios in Safford (HPE202AY, Section #5629).

Hot Yoga classes (Section #5838, 5839, 5840, 5841) will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-7:50 p.m. at Creative Flow Studios.

The yoga courses are structured to be moderately paced and include alignment instruction. Movements are designed to help enhance strength and flexibility in the body while promoting relaxation and a general sense of well-being. The beginning classes are accessible to most students and include variations for beginners and students continuing to grow in their practice.

The more advanced class is an active yoga class that includes both strength and flexibility training with a strong focus on alignment. The class is challenging and works to achieve a peak pose. There are different variations of poses and options available for people who are at different levels.

All classes will focus on and teach yoga asanas (poses), proper alignment of the body applied through practicing yoga poses, breathing exercises designed to calm the mind and reduce stress, some mediation as applied in Savasana, a resting pose, and how the application of yoga off the mat can enhance daily life.

“Yoga teaches us to live a balanced life in a balanced body. It helps us make space in our lives for the things that are truly important and to be present in those moments,” said one of EAC’s yoga instructors, Sarah Garcia. “It helps us to become healthier, happier, and to live life to the fullest.”

To register for classes call the EAC Records and Registration office at (928) 428-8270 or register online at www.eac.edu. Full in-state tuition waivers are available for students 55 and over.
