EAC Discovery Park Campus’ Jackie Madsen receives Home Town Hero award

THATCHER, Ariz. — Eastern Arizona College’s Jackie Madsen has been selected the Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club’s Home Town Hero for her outstanding example of service to the community. This award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond working with youth.

Mrs. Madsen is the Administrative Assistant at the EAC Discovery Park Campus where she is the frontline person to greet guests with a smile at the door. At Discovery Park, Jackie is involved with twice-weekly student field trips, shares exciting rides on the Polaris Shuttle Simulator, provides tours through the astronomy galleries and helps guests explore the wonders of the night sky through the 20” Telescope in the Gov Aker Observatory. Jackie also leads docents who guide telescope tours at the Mt. Graham International Observatory. She is well known in the scouting community for her “plant & animal” hikes to help scouts earn Naturalist Activity Pins and gain an appreciation of the outdoors. Jackie is an active participant in the Desert SkyGazers Astronomy Club which organizes Star Parties and other activities throughout Graham and Greenlee Counties for youth and adults.

Each year, Youth Service Club members meet to reflect on those individuals that demonstrate exceptional service to youth and the community. Malia Espinosa, with her \daughters Grace and Anastynn, represented the Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club and presented Mrs. Madsen with the award, potted flowers, candy bars and hugs of appreciation. “We’re all so grateful for Jackie and how much positive influence she has on the youth (and of course all of us) without expecting anything in return. She is our Hometown Hero and our acknowledgement is just a small token of our appreciation for her,” said Espinosa.

Come and visit “Ms. Jackie” at the EAC Discovery Park Campus. Take a ride on the Polaris Shuttle simulator, see the Graham County Historical Society’s Museum artifacts and the History of Astronomy Gallery and all the other surprises at Discovery Park, with our favorite Home Town Hero!
