Deer, sleeping instigate single-vehicle accidents

GRAHAM COUNTY — A pair of drivers managed to escape injury following two unrelated accidents last weekend.

On Saturday, a driver was traveling northbound on Brookerson Road at about 10:30 p.m., when a deer jumped in front of her vehicle. The driver struck the deer at about 50 miles an hour.

Graham County Sheriff’s deputies reported the driver showed no signs of impairment. The vehicle suffered significant damage to its front end.

On Sunday, just after 9 a.m., deputies were called out to Ocotillo Street and Manzanita Circle, where a vehicle was in a ditch.

The driver said she was traveling west on Ocotillo, when she fell asleep, causing the vehicle to veer onto the shoulder, striking a street sign before ending in the ditch.

Deputies reported the driver showed no signs of impairment.

There were no citations issued in either incident.
