Coronavirus cases in Graham, Greenlee on the rise in July

SAFFORD — While Graham County’s current Covid-19 exposure is classified as low by the Centers for Disease Control, the number of cases has been climbing over the past few weeks.

The community levels of Covid-19 are classified as high in 10 of Arizona’s 15 counties, with only Graham, Cochise and Pima counties classified as low. Greenlee and Santa Cruz are classified as medium.

However, the Arizona Department of Health Services is reporting that cases in Graham County in through the first two weeks of July are up 6 percent over the total number of cases in the entire month of June.

The week of July 3 Graham County saw 103 new cases, the most in a single week since the week of Feb. 6, when there were 145 cases. Currently 3.3 percent of available hospital beds are being used by Covid-19 patients.

While the number of cases in Greenlee County isn’t as high as in Graham, the increase on a percentage basis is much greater. The cases in Greenlee through the first two weeks of July are up 23 percent over the total number of cases in the entire month of June.

There have been 2,477 cases of Covid-19 in Graham County since Jan. 1, while Greenlee County has experienced 579.
