SAFFORD — Graham County Search and Rescue is hosting its annual cornhole tournament and raffle fund-raiser Saturday, Jan. 28, at Graham County Fairgrounds.

The money raised at this event will help provide funding for training, ropes, and communication equipment. This equipment and trainings are vital for Search and Rescue volunteers to improve their skills.

The cornhole tournament will be inside Graham County Fair Building No. 4; with registration starting at 1 p.m. and tournament play starting at 2 p.m. Teams can also pre-register by downloading the free Scoreholio app. Cost is $40 per team.

The event will feature a second fund-raiser for those who don’t play cornhole; one more geared to artists.

“I came up with a black light paint party fund-raiser,” said Kay Marchione, training officer for Search and Rescue. “We’re starting at 10 a.m., because why not? It’s going to be in the concession stand at the Fairgrounds, so the light is totally controlled.”

There are three Paint and Take sessions: from 10 a.m. to noon, from 1-3 p.m. and from 4-6 p.m. Black light face painting for children will take place from 2-8 p.m.

A variety of concessions will be available throughout the day, including fresh off-the-grill Carne asada, nachos, hot dogs, hamburgers and more. Plus black light karaoke will close things out, starting at 7 p.m.

Those who can’t attend can still support Search and Rescue through a tax-deductible donation or buying raffle tickets.
