SAFFORD — Safford Police announced Thursday that Tyler Cluff has been promoted from sergeant to the rank of captain.

The captain’s position came open when Brian Avila was promoted to Police Chief in May.

In a prepared statement posted to social media, the Department said, “(Cluff) is heavily involved in many activities throughout the community and has a wide range of interpersonal skills.  He has been and will continue to be an asset to the Department.”

Cluff started his career with the Safford Police Department as a reserve officer in May 2009, becoming a full-time officer in October 2010. He was promoted to sergeant in February 2019.

Cluff holds an associate degree in general education from Eastern Arizona College, and a bachelor’s degree in justice studies, with an emphasis in administration, from Northern Arizona University.
