SAFFORD — Gila Watershed Partnership is teaming with Graham County Chamber of Commerce’s Adventure Club, Southeastern Arizona Clean and Beautiful (SEACAB) and Gila Valley Leadership Cohort 16 for a cleanup of the Gila Riverbank this Saturday.
The goal is to prepare the corridor for development of the proposed Linear Park. The 7.4-mile park, with multiple trails, would run through both Safford and Thatcher along the Gila River. The 4.2 miles in Safford is estimated to cost $2.62 million, while the 3.2 miles in Thatcher would cost about $1.74 million.
The public is invited to join in the cleanup. Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday on the west side of the 8th Avenue Bridge in Safford. Work will continue until noon.
Volunteers should bring water and wear proper clothes, including closed-toed shoes, a hat and sunscreen.
