TUCSON — U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., is looking for students who are interested in attending one of the nation’s military academies.

Ciscomani is calling for students who believe they qualify to send him their information via his web page at Military Academy Nominations | Representative Ciscomani (house.gov).

Each member of Congress may have up to five recommended cadets or midshipmen at each academy — the Army Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy at Annapolis, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. — over a four-year period. The Coast Guard Academy does not require Congressional nomination for appointment.

To qualify for Ciscomani’s recommendation, a student must be between 17 and 23 by July 1 of the year entering the academy. The student must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Arizona in Ciscomani’s district. The student must also be unmarried, not pregnant, and under no legal obligation for the support of a dependent.

Ciscomani is asking prospective students to submit an application to his office with the following:

  • Personal statement on why the student is seeking nomination
  • High School and/or college transcript(s)
  • SAT and/or ACT test scores
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A resume of community service, volunteerism and any awards A wallet-sized color photo

For those who meet the qualifications, an interview in Ciscomani’s Tucson office will take place April 20.

Ciscomani’s district includes all of Greenlee County, and parts of Graham, Cochise, Pima and Pinal counties.
