Carl David Mahan, 69, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 21, 2017, after suffering a stroke two weeks earlier at his home in York. He passed in Tucson at Peppi’s House TMC Hospice.
David was born July 27, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, the only child of Paul Mahan and Cleeda Faye Blythe Mahan. Always of stout build from day one, the nurses quickly nicknamed him “Butch.”
David, as he was known, was a mechanic learning the trade from the ground up as a small boy in his dad’s shop. He was given the broken parts to learn and later to try to repair. If it had an engine, he could make it go. He loved anything to do with mechanics and wanted to always be just that, a good mechanic. David also loved traveling with his family, logging many thousands of miles on yearly vacations, as well as camping, fishing and going to the lakes.
David met his wife, Linda, marrying her on January 20, 1968. He passed away just one day after their 49th anniversary. Together they had three children; a daughter, Pamela (Stephen) Bigelow; two sons, James and Daniel (Krista) Mahan. He is also survived by several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
David lived his entire life in Clifton, Morenci and the York area, going to work for Phelps Dodge as a boilermaker in 1968. He later transferred to the lube shop and finally became a mechanic in the small truck garage until his retirement.
No funeral services are being planned. His ashes will be laid to rest in Safford at a later date. The family requests donations be made in David’s honor to Peppi’s House TMC Hospice, 5301 E. Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85712.
Arrangements were entrusted to Vining Funeral Home.
