PHOENIX — The Cochise County Board of Supervisors have selected a Benson City Councilman to serve out the final year of Becky Nutt’s term in the Arizona House of Representatives.

Lupe Diaz will join incumbent Gail Griffin as the representatives for Dist. 14, which includes Graham and Greenlee counties.

Diaz’s appointment is the result of Nutt resigning her seat effective Nov. 1.

In addition to serving on the Benson City Council, Diaz is the pastor at Benson’s Grace Chapel, and the principal at Grace Christian Academy.

“I’m grateful to the Cochise County Supervisors for this honor to represent District 14 in the Arizona Legislature,” Diaz said in a prepared statement. “My priority will always be to the people I represent, to support good public policy to help them thrive and to raise their families in free and safe communities. I can’t wait to get started.”
