Basketball state tournament updates and schedules

Play-In games are now complete and the official state tournament brackets are set in 2A and 3A Basketball as well as 3A Soccer. 1A basketball has reached the second round.

The #2 Fort Thomas Lady Apaches dominated in their opening round win over #15 Salome. Fort Thomas was missing their freshman phenom and leading scorer, Jasmine Olivar, but the team adjusted nicely with LJ Rope taking over at the point guard position.

The Lady Apaches held Salome scoreless in the first quarter and pushed their lead to 37-6 at halftime before stretching their lead to a 54-21 final. Fort Thomas was lead in scoring by Hailey Hinton’s 12 points. Kyia Haws chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Fort Thomas will host #7 St. David on March 10th at 6pm. The Lady Tigers beat Fredonia 55-21 in the opening round. It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

#9 Duncan boys upset #8 Williams in the opening round and will travel to #1 North Valley Christian on March 9th at 7pm.

The #1 Pima Lady Roughriders will host #16 Scottsdale Prep on March 10th at 5pm. The #3 boys squad will host #14 Arete Prep on March 10th as the second game of a double header at 7pm. Both games will be broadcast on KATO 1230 AM and online at GilaValleyCentral.net.

The 12th seeded Morenci Lady Wildcats will be on the road at #5 Round Valley on March 10th at 7pm. The Elks won both regular season matchups.

In 3A Hoops the #4 Lady Eagles from Thatcher will host #13 Florence on March 9th at 7pm. The two region opponents met twice in the regular season with Thatcher winning both. The game will be broadcast on KATO 1230 AM.

The #14 Thatcher boys will travel up to #3 Snowflake on March 10th for their opening round game. The two teams met on February 27th in Snowflake with the Lobos winning 83-64.

The #12 Safford Lady Bulldogs will be on the road on March 9th to take on undefeated #5 Valley Christian. It will be the first meeting between these two.

If both Safford and Thatcher girls win it would set up a 2nd round meeting later this week.
