PIMA — The Town of Pima is taking a close look at the issues surrounding growth, with a number of proposals coming before the Town Council.

The council heard Tuesday the first reading of changes to code when it comes to new construction, specifically focusing on the requirements of the certificate of occupancy, and saw the first proposal from the Planning and Zoning Commission on rezoning of the town to ensure similar development is located in the same areas.

Another issue the town is considering is whether its code is too lax or too onerous when it comes to home-based businesses.

To that end, Council member Teresa Bailey suggested a survey of all businesses, to get an accounting of the number and types of businesses operating in the town, as well as the issues those businesses are facing.

“See what their thoughts are on some of our questions as we move forward on changing code, updating code or enforcing any code within our city limits,” Bailey said.

Bailey offered to the council a survey she mocked up, which was embraced by the other council members, who suggested that it could also be opened to the public at large.

To get the largest possible response, the council directed staff to look into including the survey in utility bills, as well as staff community events where in-person surveys can be conducted.
