DPS troopers began pursuing a black motorcycle traveling approximately 130 MPH on Highway 191 Wednesday at approximately 6:30 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. DPS advised local law enforcement that the motorcycle had turned westbound on Highway 70. Safford officers and deputies in the areas of Highway 191, Discovery Park Blvd and Highway reportedly had not seen the motorcycle come into town.
Several minutes later, authorities received a call of a motor vehicle accident that occurred in the area of E Clifton Street and S Gila Avenue in Solomon. When deputies arrived on the scene they observed that the motorcycle involved in the crash matched the description of the vehicle DPS troopers were pursuing. The motorcycle rider was not on the scene and appeared to have left the area on foot.
Safford, Thatcher police as well as Graham County deputies set up a perimeter in the area but were not able to locate the rider.
