CLIFTON — The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest announced it has implemented Stage 2 fire restrictions across the forest, starting Thursday.

Stage 2 restrictions prohibit igniting, building, maintaining or using a fire, including charcoal and briquettes, even in developed recreation areas; and smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three- feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.

During the hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., use of generators or chainsaws are prohibited. Fireworks and explosives, including exploding targets, are never allowed on national forests.

The San Carlos Apache Tribe has also implemented Stage 2 fire restrictions on the Reservation, while the Bureau of Land Management has seasonal fire restrictions in place, which carry the same restrictions as National Forest Stage 2 restrictions.

There are currently no fire restrictions on Arizona State Trust Lands or State Parks, or on the Coronado National Forest in Graham County.
