GRAHAM COUNTY — Graham County Sheriff’s Office is receiving numerous calls today — and even a people few walking into the department — saying they’ve been contacted by a “Sgt. Skinner” about outstanding warrants.
While GCSO does have a Sgt. Skinner on staff, Sheriff PJ Allred said Skinner and the Sheriff’s Office have made no such calls.
“We never ask anything personal over the phone; we don’t advertise warrants over the phone; it’s a total scam. If we want you, will come see you in person,” Allred said.
Allred said the scammers are claiming the people reached have a warrant outstanding for their arrest, and the scammers are demanding personal information, including Social Security numbers.
When asked for personal information from an unrecognized caller, residents should hang up immediately and contact law enforcement.
