GRAHAM COUNTY — It’s another busy weekend in the Gila Valley.
On Friday, the Lamb and Vine Pumpkin Patch and Maze will re-open for the weekend. The pumpkin patch, on Lizard Bump Road, northwest of Pima, operates from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Friday and Saturday in October.
Saturday’s events start with the St. Vincent DePaul Society Safford Cornhole Tournament, at the Freeport Pavilion at Graham County Fairgrounds.
The event will kick-off at 7:30 a.m. with a rosary prayed in honor of Our Lady of Fatima’s final appearance and her “Miracle of the Sun,” followed by registration at 8 a.m. and bags flying at 9 a.m.
Cost is $20 per person and there will be prizes for first, second and third place. The event will also feature raffles, food trucks and live music.
Starting at 9 a.m., the inaugural Safford Air Fair will take place at Safford Regional Airport.
The Air Fair will include a fly-in; a static display of modern, historic and military aircraft; food and aviation-related vendors; and airplane camping.
The Air Fair is a one-day event, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also taking place just one day is a Ranch Rodeo and Cowboy Workshop at Graham County Fairgrounds.
The workshop for working ranchers and farmers will take place starting at 9 a.m., then it opens to the public at 2:30 p.m. with the ranch rodeo.
“The idea was to hold an event that kind of celebrates cowboy culture, the ranching industry, the beef industry, and just make it an all-encompassing day,” said Nate Brawley with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension.
Roping is the first event, followed by junior roughstock at 6 p.m., and the ranch broncs and open ranch rodeo at 7 p.m.
