AIA releases classifications for 2022-2024

PHOENIX — The Arizona Interscholastic Association released the 2022 through 2024 conference alignment on Tuesday. These numbers apply to every sport except football. Football gets placed in their own conference independent of the other sports.

These placements are based solely on student enrollment numbers that are reported by the each schools Athletic Director.

There was little change for most schools in the Gila Valley.

Both Safford and Thatcher will stay in 3A. Safford reports 859 students, which makes them the 12th biggest 3A school. Thatcher reports 567 students.

Pima and Morenci both remain in the 2A Conference. Morenci reports 350 students and Pima has 337.

Fort Thomas and Duncan will remain in 1A and will be joined by Willcox. Fort Thomas reports 130 students, Duncan is at 119. Willcox has reported just 124 students, which drops them into the 1A Conference. Late Tuesday Willcox updated their numbers with the AIA and will stay in 2A.

Schools have until October 19th to appeal their initial classification. To see the full list of placements click here.
