Adult summer reading challenge begins June 5th

SAFFORD – The popular Adult Summer Reading Challenge is back!  Adults can pick up a free Great Summer Reading Challenge card at the Safford Library beginning Monday, June 5th.  The card offers self-paced reading and activity challenges such as “Read a classic” or “Checkout a cookbook and prepare an international recipe.”  This year’s card also includes challenges to help improve our community. Every time you complete a challenge, you are entered into a weekly drawing for a prize donated by local merchants.   Some of the weekly prizes were donated by Home Depot, Jack of Arts, Sushi King Uno, Kainoa’s and Ginaveve’s.   Complete 12 challenges by July 27th and get a gold ticket to be in the grand prize drawing for either a $50 gift certificate to Ace Hardware or a 32GB Kindle Fire HD8 donated by the Friends of the Safford Library.

“The challenge card is just plain fun.  Summer should be fun – even for grown-ups,” observed Library Director Leanne McElroy.  “We have seen husbands and wives compete against each other.  We have seen kids cheer on their mom as she completes each challenge. Most people participate just in challenging themselves.”

At saffordlibrary.org, adults can also track their reading online and join in community challenges to earn badges.  There are no prizes to win in the online program, but you can share in your child’s summer reading program experience and maybe reach a personal goal.

The Safford Library’s Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Arizona State Library and the Friends of the Safford Library.
