Flooding Creates Road Hazards Across Graham County
GRAHAM COUNTY, Ariz. — Flooding and water-related road hazards prompted multiple calls to the Graham County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 22, as fast-moving water and washed-out roadways created potentially dangerous driving conditions.
According to the Sheriff’s Office incident report dated Oct. 23, Eden Bridge was reported flooded at approximately 7:08 a.m. Thursday. The highway department was notified to address the hazard.
Later in the afternoon, a caller reported water being pumped from private property onto East San Jose Road, creating a driving hazard. Dispatch notes indicated that flooding extended west of John Wayne Lane toward the prison, and that Larson Lane was approximately 90% washed out. The highway department was notified and advised that warning signs were needed.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., another caller reported that Stockton Wash, near Stockton Road and Wells Road, was running high and moving quickly. The highway department was notified, although the report did not provide an estimated response time.
Other incidents documented Thursday included a vehicle striking a gas meter along U.S. Highway 70 in the Lonestar area. The caller reported a strong gas odor and an active leak. Southwest Gas was notified, and dispatch notes later indicated that the leak had stopped.
Deputies also responded to a report of smoke or gas coming from a silo near Starry Lane and U.S. Highway 70, where the caller reported hearing an alarm. Dispatch sent alerts as authorities worked to assess the situation. The report did not document the final outcome of that call.
The Sheriff’s Office recorded 25 incidents in its report covering activity beginning just after midnight Oct. 22 and extending into the morning of Oct. 23.
Motorists should use caution around flooded washes and damaged roadways. The incident report does not establish whether all affected roads remained hazardous after the calls were logged.
