GRAHAM COUNTY — A pair of events will celebrate the signing of the nation’s most important document, the Constitution, on Sept. 17.

“Which is a neat day, because that was the day the Constitution was signed about 239 years ago,” said Bonnie Briscoe with the Daughters of the American Revolution Gila Valley Chapter.

On Thursday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m., Eastern Arizona College will conduct a Constitution Day program on Thursday, September 17, at 11 a.m. in the Lee Little Theater.

The EA Marching Band will perform and the featured speaker will be Arizona state Rep. Quang Nguyen.

That same evening, from 5:30-7 p.m., the DAR and Friends of the Safford Library will host a Constitution Week kick-off event at the Safford Library Annex.

The event will feature patriotic musical performances by Ethan McBride, Michael Shoaf and Jeff Skiba; a presentation entitled “Why the Constitution matters now more than ever” by Graham County Superior Judge Michael Peterson; and a reading of portions of the scholarship-winning patriotic essays by local high school students.

Refreshments will be provided by Rustic Barn Bakery and DAR members.

Both events are open to the public and free to attend.
