Graham County Sheriff’s Office Responds to 26 Incidents
The Graham County Sheriff’s Office handled 26 reported incidents during the period covered by its September 15 report, including reports of possible gunshots, a stolen firearm, wanted persons, welfare checks, and an abandoned travel trailer.
Shortly before 2 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to the area of South 20th Avenue and West Relation Street in Safford after a caller reported hearing what appeared to be gunshots. Additional information indicated possible gunshots east of Daley Stop in the desert area between Reay and 20th (See Safford Police Incident Report).
Several welfare-related calls were also reported. In one case, a family member requested a welfare check on a 42-year-old man after last having contact with him the previous morning. The report noted a history of suicidal thoughts but no reported plan or action.
Later Monday night, deputies conducted another welfare check after a juvenile reportedly sent a text indicating suicidal thoughts. The report states the juvenile had a history of previous attempts involving pills and cutting and that the text had been sent approximately 30 minutes before the call.
A firearm theft was reported on West 45th Street. According to the report, a firearm had been stolen from a fifth-wheel trailer sometime in late June. The reporting party had since moved and no longer lived at the location.
Deputies also responded to a citizen assist involving a dispute at a residence on East 67th Place. The reporting party said her father and brother had been removed from the residence earlier in the day and that her father was requesting a firearm he owned. She expressed concern that he was mentally unstable.
Other calls included a report of dogs in a parking area, multiple traffic stops, service of court papers, a citizen assist, a juvenile-related call, and a report of an abandoned travel trailer near P Ranch Road and U.S. Highway 191. The travel trailer was reportedly about 20 yards down P Ranch Road and had no VIN plate.
Two wanted-person incidents were recorded. One occurred at Firth Park on Thatcher Boulevard, while another involved a man who reportedly wanted to turn himself in and was waiting in a vehicle near Graham Canal Road.
The report lists 26 total incidents handled by the Graham County Sheriff’s Office, with calls continuing into the early morning hours of September 15.
