Still time to vote early, but not by mail

GRAHAM COUNTY — Anyone with a mail-in ballot in his or her possession must now bring the ballot to the Graham County General Services Building.

The last day to mail a ballot was July 14, so now ballots must be placed in the drop box in the General Services Building parking lot, or hand-delivered to the Recorder’s Office.

Those without a mail-in ballot but still wishing to vote early can do so in the Recorder’s Office Thursday, July 16, and Monday, July 20.

Polling places for in-person voting in the July 21 Primary Election are:

  • Solomon School Gym
  • Graham County Fairgrounds Ag Building
  • Safford Stake Center
  • Eastern Arizona College Fine Arts Auditorium
  • Pima Town Hall
  • Fort Thomas High School Gym
  • Robert Olivar Sr. Learning Center, Bylas
  • Bonita School
  • San Carlos Housing Authority, Peridot

Graham County Republicans will be asked to decide which two of three candidates — incumbent Lupe Diaz, and challengers Cheryl Caswell and David Gowan — will advance to the General Election in the race for state House of Representatives; and which of two candidates — Stephanie Newton and Michael Andazola — will serve as Graham County Justice of the Peace.

There are no primary races on the Democratic side.

In local elections, only two people are running for the two seats on the Pima Town Council, incumbents Brian Paull and Teresa Bailey. The pair will now serve another four-year term, ending in December 2030.

Five people are running for three seats on the Thatcher Town Council. They are: incumbents Jenny Howard, Ryan Allen and Mike McEuen; and challengers Brandon Homer and Erick Wright.

For the Safford City Council, six are running for three seats — incumbents Luke Arbizo, Arnold Lopez and Steve McGaughey; and challengers Mary Bingham, Jacob Garcia and Monique Ungerman.

Any candidate who receives more than 50 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary will be elected.

If not enough council candidates receive more than 50 percent of the vote to fill all the seats that are up for election, the top two vote-getters for each seat not filled will advance to the November general election, where the candidates who receive the most votes will be declared the winners, regardless of percentage.
