Goodwin fire at 20-percent containment

BYLAS — Growth of the Goodwin fire was halted and firefighters were able to achieve 20-percent containment Monday.

That’s according to the daily update issued Tuesday by the Albuquerque Zone Incident Management Team.

The fire, on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, about 12 miles southwest of Bylas and 12 miles northeast of Klondyke, remains at 1,010 acres and is holding within established fire lines.

Focus will now turn to securing lines along the southeast flank. However, with the forecast calling for humidity at 15 percent or lower, and the possibility of dry lightning, fire teams are also preparing for fire growth.

The fire started Aug. 6 from lightning.

The Bronco fire, also on the San Carlos Apache Reservation about 30 miles northeast of San Carlos, grew slightly Monday, to 18,131 acres and remains at 0-percent containment.

Another fire started Monday, Aug. 11, in Graham County. The Airplane fire, northeast of Bryce Mountain, was discovered at 4:42 p.m. and is currently listed at 81 acres with 0-percent containment.

Cause has not yet been determined.
