Local radio, YouTube top Arizonans choices for media, social media

PHOENI X — Local radio continues to be the favorite way Arizonans consume entertainment and news content.

That’s according to data released Thursday by the Arizona Media Association.

More than 1,200 Arizona residents 18-years-old and older were surveyed, and local radio is listened to an average of 3 hours and 48 minutes each day, which is up 17 minutes compared to 2024.

Second most is paid video streaming services, at an average of 3 hours and 2 minutes per day (up 8 minutes), followed by free video streaming services at an average of 2 hours and 20 minutes per day (up 13 minutes).

People spend an average of 1 hour and 23 minutes when reading the local newspaper online (up 13 minutes), or 1 hour and 2 minutes when reading the print version (up 18 minutes). People spend just 46 minutes reading local media that is online only (up 5 minutes).

Streaming paid subscription audio and satellite radio both saw drops in listenership this year, with streaming down 4 minutes to an average of 1 hour and 32 minutes, and satellite radio down 3 minutes to an average of 41 minutes per day.

YouTube is the number one choice for Arizonans when it comes to social media, with 83 percent of respondents saying they use the platform. Second is Facebook at 77 percent, followed by Instagram at 61 percent and Tik Tok at 48 percent. X (formerly known as Twitter) is at 36 percent usage and Truth Social is used by 13 percent of respondents.
