SAFFORD — Development of the Safford Airport and surrounding industrial park continues to move forward.

On Tuesday, the city put out a request for qualifications for consulting firms to “provide professional airport engineering, planning, design, marketing, and construction management services for Safford Regional Airport-1LT Duane Spalsbury Field.”

Deadline to submit is May 9.

The city is also accepting bids to construct 10 T-hangers at the airport.

Deadline to submit is May 16 and the winning bidder will have 230 days from approval of the bid to complete the work on 10 50-feet by 231-feet airplane storage units.

In the 2022-23 budget, the city set aside about $640,000 in American Rescue Plan Act money for development of T-hangers.

Currently, all T- and box-hangers at Safford Airport are leased, and Airport operations have created a waitlist for airplane owners interested in renting space. Even with development of the 10 new T-hangers, the wait time is two- to three-years.
