PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs has ordered flags to be flown at half staff at all state buildings, in honor of the passing of Safford Mayor Jason Kouts.
The lowering of the flags will take place Friday, Jan. 26; and Saturday, Feb. 3; both from sunrise to sunset.
“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mayor Jason Kouts. He was a beloved leader of the Safford community, born and raised in the Gila Valley and spent his life in service to others. My deepest condolences go out to his family, loved ones and the residents of Safford. I’ve ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in his honor and memory on Friday, January 26 and on the day of interment, February 3,” Hobbs said in the announcement.
Hobbs reached out to the Kouts family to notify them of the honor, and she added that Individuals, businesses, and other organizations across the state are encouraged to join in this tribute.
Kouts died Wednesday, Jan. 24, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 51.
A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 2, starting at 5 p.m., at Vining Funeral Home. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, Feb. 3, starting at 6 p.m., at the David M. Player Center for the Arts.
